KNOCK, KNOCK. WHO’S THERE? OBVIOUSLY NOT THE NIELSEN FAMILY. TV RATING NUMBER FOR THE 2014 INDYCAR OPENING ACT AT ST. PETERSBURG NULL AND VOID!
IndyCar in need of new marketing strategy? New product? Or both?
IndyCar Opener Low on ABC!
When I checked on the Nielsen ratings for Sundays IndyCar race of St.Pete, I wasn’t sure if the 0.59 was the Nielsen rating number for the race, or if it was what Lindsay Lohan blew at her last sobriety checkpoint.
With a series in dire need of sponsorship this is not the way to go about it. Also it confounds me how IndyCar could not show qualifying live on Saturday and then on Sunday tape delay the race, showing it after the NASCAR race and waiting till the NCAA championships were over.
It seems that with half of the IndyCar driver’s, they are on The IndyCar Lease program also known as buy a ride. Team owner’s just aren’t that worried about such dismal rating numbers as long as they can support their five month hobby.
Sunday’s IndyCar Series opener from St. Petersburg earned a 0.59 overnight rating on ABC, down 46% from 2012 (1.1), and tied as the network’s lowest IndyCar overnight in at least the past five years. Overnight numbers were not available for last year’s race, which aired on NBCSN.
Lets put it into perspective IndyCar fans: 0.59 is equal to a Nielsen Ratings number of these sports: The WNBA, World Pro Bowling Tour, Golf (When Tiger Woods isn’t playing) or watching a Chicago Cubs baseball game.
The ratings below are household ratings from the 56 television markets with local Nielsen meters for Saturday March 29 and Sunday March 30, 2014. The 56 markets (out of 210 total) cover about 70% of the US television population.
