After being quiet for much of the 2018-19 offseason, U.K.-based race team Carlin confirmed that they will be back as a full-time entry with Max Chilton at the wheel in 2019. As announced by the team, Gallagher will be back as the No. 59 Chevrolet’s primary sponsor.
“Our first year in the series was a great learning experience for the whole team and we’re thrilled that Gallagher is back on board for our second year,” said team principle Trevor Carlin.
“Gallagher started this journey with us and we’re just so thankful that they share our passion for success and really believe in both us as a team and Max’s ability to represent their brand. We’re confident that our second season in the series will be even better than the first and we’ll be able to push our partnership to the next level.”
It seems that Chilton’s return as a full-time driver was contingent on Gallagher returning as the team’s primary supporter. Gallagher is a global insurance brokerage, risk management and consulting services firm headquartered in Rolling Meadows, Illinois. The company has operations in 35 countries and offers client-service capabilities in more than 150 countries around the world through a network of correspondent brokers and consultants.
In 50 career NTT IndyCar Series starts over three seasons, Chilton will look to take a step forward in Carlin’s sophomore season. Last year, Chilton registered an average finish of 17.9 over 17 races, a career-worst stat even though the England native was running at the end of 15 races.
“Our first year together as an INDYCAR team had its ups and downs, but the potential and growth that we showed as a team was obvious to everyone,” said Chilton. “I want to say a massive thank you to Gallagher for their continuing support of me. To have the opportunity to represent the nearly 30,000 employees of Gallagher, a brand that focuses so heavily on teamwork and innovation, is a true privilege.”
Additionally, Carlin himself announced that Charlie Kimball will be back in a part-time role with the team – as will sponsor Novo Nordisk.
“We’re very happy that we kept both drivers and both sponsors for the second year. We’re very pleased that Gallagher has shown faith in us and realized the potential of the team, even though we didn’t really show it properly last year. They believe in us and they have confidence in us going forward.
“The same goes for Novo Nordisk and their longtime support for Charlie — it’s been such a privilege for us to become a part of their 11-year relationship,” said Carlin. “We’re one of the first new teams in a long, long time that has entered INDYCAR and done a full season with two cars and to carry both of those drivers forward for a second season. We’re pretty proud of that.”
The team announced that the partnership between Carlin and Gallagher is the first “driver and sponsorship combination confirmed for Carlin for the 2019 NTT IndyCar Series season,” hinting that there is more to come before scheduled tests in February.
