It features all forms of auto racing, not just open wheel, but this weekend in Sussex, England is the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed. The three day event is part exhibition, part garage walk, part car show, and part hill climb event.
Notable names from US racing on the hill this year include 1998 IndyCar champion and 1999 Indy 500 winner Kenny Brack, Dakar hero Robby Gordon, Roberto Moreno and Kerry Earnhardt. It’s not quite like 2011 when the theme of the whole weekend was IndyCar and saw IndyCars past and present feature on the hillclimb in a special Indianapolis themed parade, with many of the current series drivers on hand. Still fun though!
F1 drivers past and present driving the hill lined with old-school bales of straw include Felipe Massa, Kimi Raikkonen, Nico Rosberg, Jenson Button and Damon Hill.
This year’s featured manufacturer is Mazda who are bringing their famous sports cars from years gone by, and showing off the latest version of the MX-5/Miata/Roadster. They’ve posted a highlights video, which is worth watching.
The whole event looks fantastic, taking place in the grounds of an historic English country estate, hosted by the Goodwood Estate’s motorsport fanatic lord of the manor – Lord March (yes there really is a guy called Lord March, I double checked)
If you want to take a look and experience the atmosphere of the Festival of Speed, they have international live streaming Friday, Saturday and Sunday at https://grrc.goodwood.com/
