Historic car schedule set for Indianapolis 500 race weekend

Back for the 2018 Indianapolis 500 race weekend, Indy cars of the event’s past will grace the 2.5-mile oval on both Miller Lite Carb Day (Friday, May 25) and Firestone Legends Day (Saturday, May 26).

One of the best kept secrets that isn’t widely publicized by either the Verizon IndyCar Series or the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, historic car demo laps have become a pleasant fan attraction for those who happen to stumble upon it during Memorial Day weekend at IMS.

With help from the Vintage Indy Registry, we are happy to post these times for cars to be seen on track for both the Friday and Saturday of race weekend.

Check out the times below and visit the historic race car “Gasoline Alley” that is constructed inside turn two in the Hall of Fame Museum parking lot on Carb Day and Legends Day.  All participating historic Indy cars will be on display in this temporary paddock area from Thursday through Saturday of race weekend.

  1. Not sure if you have the Carb Day schedule correct. You show the events starting 25 minutes before the gates even open to the public.

    • Adam,

Unfortunately this is correct. Some demonstration laps will occur before the public is allowed into the Speedway. Why they do this, I am not sure but it has been the case for at least the last two years.

      • Interesting. I’ve been to the last 3 carb days but I didn’t realize this was the case. Thanks for the info!

        • Adam,
You are welcome! If you have a Bronze Badge, take a look at what Joseph commented below. I can’t confirm this to be accurate since I don’t use a Bronze Badge but I have heard this from others. Just something to consider.

  2. If you have a bronze badge, you can enter at the credentials gate 1 hour prior to the normal gates opening to the public.
