UPDATE: Comment from Jay Howard, MSR Indy
I am super excited about the opportunity to work with MSR, Michael is a great guy and runs a superb Prototype program, I expect his IndyCar program to be the same. I have worked very hard to get this opportunity, but the people behind me worked even harder to make this happen and I can’t thank them enough, Klint from BRANDed, my wife Courtney and all my partners which I can’t disclose right now, I am grateful to have them all in my corner! Hopefully I can reward them with an Indy 500 win!
I look forward to the goosebumps that Indianapolis brings! - Jay Howard
The IndyCar division of Michael Shank Racing has filed an entry to run the 96th Indianapolis 500 with Firestone Indy Lights Champion Jay Howard. While funding is in place to compete in the race, the team is still awaiting an engine deal.
Both Chevrolet and Honda have already committed to a limited number of engines by the race, so it remains to be seen where MSR will end up.
After winning the 2012 Rolex 24 at Daytona, MSR looks to continue their winning ways.
“We have the sponsor package in place, and we believe Jay (Howard) is the kind of driver who could really shine in the 500. The challenge remains for us to acquire the right to utilize a engine to practice, qualify, and race in the Indianapolis 500. We look forward to making everything final, and will be making announcements regarding the program when appropriate.” - Michael Shank, MSR Indy
MSR Indy is a partnership between Michael Shank, AJ Allmendinger (NASCAR driver), and Ohio businessman Brian Bailey.
