Opening Day At Mid-Ohio

What a beautiful day to start the race weekend off.  It was sunny, 82 degrees and a nice breeze to keep you cool.  The action was nonstop on the track all day with the entire Mazda Road To Indy, IndyCar and the GT classes of the Pirelli World Challenge.

I must say the new LED lights on the IndyCars were a big hit with fans and I think they are a valuable asset.  The casual fan will know what position a driver is in at all times.  At Mid-Ohio, leader boards are scarce so it helps everyone out.  I look for other racing series to come out with a version of IndyCar’s.

I had the privilege of talking with Kevin Estre in the K-PAX garage for 45 minutes.  It really felt like we had been long time friends.  We talked about racing and life. I’ll have a more detailed article about Kevin once the weekend is over.  He told some good stories and wait til you see his steering wheel.  Who knew they were so expensive?

Anyway, I’m roughing it this weekend in the campground with my tent.  This is a new experience for me but I’m already enjoying it.  Don’t forget about the tweetup Saturday at noon at the concession stand near the esses.
