When the green flag falls on the 2020 VRCE Classic IndyCar Series season on iRacing, Logan Simmons and Iconic Motorsports will be looking to improve on his debut 2019 season.

The Mid-South club driver made 10 starts in last year’s campaign, debuting in the March 2019 round at Interlagos. Simmons’ best result of the year was a seventh-place finish, while his best qualifications effort placed him ninth.

Not only will Simmons look to build on his 2019 standings result of 45th – in a part-time effort – but bring upstart driver Caleb Weekley with him to the front.

“We came into this season on a high after being competitive at Homestead, and last year our driver Caleb Weekley had the most laps led in the Indy 500,” added Simmons, who will drive the No. 75 Dallara IR-05 Indy car with sponsorship from Open-Wheels.com.

Weekley, who will drive the No. 10 car with associate sponsorship from Open-Wheels, made 15 starts in 2019 and equaled Simmons’ best result of 7th. The Club Illinois driver placed 19th overall in the final standings last year, and is a threat on ovals.

Other Iconic Motorsports drivers in the fold include Andrew-Adair Saunders (finished 12th overall in the 2019 standings), Josh Baird (10th overall in 2019), Todd Novasad (21st overall), and Vesa Jylha-Ollila (20th overall last year).

Heading into today’s season-opening round at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, Simmons is confident that the team’s preparation will make them a contender – both on Sunday, and for the rest of the season.

“For Auto Club this week, we took our baseline from last year and built (on it). So far, we have seen success with being towards the top of the charts all week in practice, so as a whole, the team is feeling very confident for this season that we can take the fight to the top teams.”

The green flag will drop at 2:30 PM ET and will be shown live by RaceSpot TV here.
