Can you believe that it has been nearly a week since Indianapolis 500 practice opened last Tuesday? In that time we have seen five drivers crash, an intense day one of Indianapolis 500 qualifications, and an even crazier day two of qualifying that sent Fernando Alonso and McLaren home.
Today features the penultimate practice for this year’s race as the only other practice session scheduled after today is a short 1 1/2 hour stanza on Miller Lite Carb Day.
Conditions for practice today will feel much like the conditions we enjoyed at the beginning of last week before the heat and storms rolled in. Temperatures will only reach a high in the mid-60s Fahrenheit this afternoon and there will be plenty of sunshine to go around.
This should create for a quick track and a ton of action as cars will be lined up in packs to practice race trim simulations this afternoon. Look for teams like Andretti Autosport, Team Penske, Ed Carpenter Racing and Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports to gather each of their team cars for runs with other multi-car teams – often within their own manufacturer group.
The price of admission for practice today is $15 and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway gates open in one hour – 11:30 AM Eastern.
