So the first 2 indy car races of the year are in the books and the year has started off with a bang! Most notably in my books are the fact that the rookies of the series are driving like vets and some of the vets are driving like rookies!
I am blown away by all of the rookies! They are showing the old dogs that they are there to make a name for themselves. No one is bowing down to the big names or the big teams right now and I LOVE IT!
At long beach 3 of the new guys finished in the top 10. Who would have ever imagined that? It’s hard to pick a top of the class yet, but I think Munoz is going to be really hard to beat. Hawksworth is an amazing talent as well but has just run into some bad luck. I can’t honestly say that I am disappointed with any of them though!
Then there are the old hats…tempers are running wild for only being 2 races in. I thought it was rather unsportsmanlike of RHR to try to brush off his long beach accident as anything other than his mistake. Yes I get he was racing, but he should have known better. Even his team-mate called him out on it. I was glad to see that one person who caused a bit of mayhem admitted to his mistake and even said he should have gotten a penalty, so I will give Will Power some credit there.
If things keep going the way they are, we may very well see a rookie (at least one) win this year. I can’t remember the last time that the rookies were really a threat and I think that it can only lead to good things for the series as a whole. I mean, who doesn’t like to see the underdogs doing well?
I really think the series may shape up to be the best in years, and everyone should be glad for that. I know I for one will be cheering on the little guys this year. It doesn’t get much more exciting. I daresay, I can’t wait for May! Bring on the true test!
