With the registration period for November’s Open-Wheels.com 500 Mile Race presented by Mitchell Transmissions going live tomorrow, the staff at Open-Wheels is happy to announce another partner in support of the inaugural event.

The Vintage Indy Registry™, which dedicates itself to the preservation of open-wheel racing’s historic past, will join the prestigious partner line-up in support of the November 17 race.

“Today I am happy to finally confirm the Vintage Indy Registry as a partner for the inaugural Open-Wheels 500,” said Tanner Watkins, owner and editor of Open-Wheels.com and the president of the Open-Wheels.com 500 Mile Race.

“As a traditionalist of IndyCar racing – and racing as a whole – it is an honor to have the support of the Vintage Indy Registry. The Registry does so much to keep the memories, spirit, and cars of racing’s golden era alive and well, and we are incredibly happy to build on an existing relationship with Mike Lashmett and the entire crew.”

The Vintage Indy Registry™ is dedicated to the history and preservation of Indianapolis Championship Cars from 1911-1999. Through the collective efforts of enthusiasts, specialists and professionals, the Registry’s goal is to ensure that these cars are more broadly appreciated and their history correctly preserved for future generations.

In support of the inaugural Open-Wheels 500, the Vintage Indy Registry sponsored 15 laps (become a lap sponsor here!) and will donate a pair of Grant King Racers hats: one to the pole winner, and one to the race winner.

The Registry represents each individual car’s carefully and accurately documented legacy, assembled from museums, collections, and individual owners of “The Greatest Cars in Racing™.”

“In keeping with the Vintage Indy Registry’s™ principal belief that the future of all things Indy is deeply anchored to its past – and along with the immense popularity with old and new fans of Sim Racing – it only seemed a natural fit to help sponsor the Open-Wheels.com 500 Mile Race on November 17,” said Mike Lashmett, CEO of the Vintage Indy Registry™.

“Nobody works harder and does a better job of telling the story of IndyCar and the Indianapolis 500 than Open-Wheels.com. We are proud to partner with them.”

The Vintage Indy Registry is home to some of the most memorable cars in the history of open-wheel racing, including this 1971 Mongoose chassis which was driven by Cale Yarborough (VIR Photo).

One of the Vintage Indy Registry’s slogans is “Driving Indy’s Past Into the Present,” and the group certainly does that with their network of classic cars from multiple generations of the Indianapolis 500.

Visit their website at www.vintageindyregistry.com to check out their collection – which includes cars like the 1972 Olsonite Eagle, a 1968 Lotus 56, a 1971 A.J. Foyt Racing Coyote, a 1980 Grant King special, and more!

The 2019 Open-Wheels.com 500 Mile Race presented by Mitchell Transmissions will be held November 17. The registration period for interested drivers begins on October 1 and ends on October 25. Visit Open-Wheels.com for the registration link, as well as the iRacing forums.

Official practice sessions for the event open on Sunday, November 3, and Qualifications Weekend presented by AG Trucking will be held on November 9 and 10.
