On the day that registration period for the 2019 Open-Wheels.com 500 Mile Race goes live, the staff at Open-Wheels are proud to announce a special award for the inaugural event.

Pit Lane Parley, the popular podcast that covers the NTT IndyCar Series and the Road to Indy ladder series, will offer a $100 prize to the driver who captures the pole award at the end of day one qualifications on November 9 – the first day of Qualifications Weekend presented by AG Trucking.

“Today’s announcement is one of my most anticipated releases we have had to date,” said Tanner Watkins, the owner and editor of Open-Wheels.com and the president of the Open-Wheels.com 500 Mile Race presented by Mitchell Transmissions.

“To give away $100 to the pole winner after day one qualifications will bring an intense excitement to Pole Day, especially since this event does not require drivers to pay an entry fee. It is a tremendous award that adds to our ever-growing prize purse, and I think Mike Joachim and his staff at PLP for their commitment to the growth of sim racing.”

The Pit Lane Parley podcast was formed ahead of the 2018 IndyCar season, and since then, the show has enjoyed incredible growth in the open-wheel racing community.

Mike Joachim (and his co-hosts Jessica Baker and Matt Hickey) have hauled in an impressive guest list in the show’s history, including Josef Newgarden, Alexander Rossi, Scott Dixon, Will Power, Graham Rahal, Emerson Fittipaldi, and a slew of others. Joachim’s support of the 2019 Open-Wheels.com 500 Mile Race continues to establish Pit Lane Parley’s presence in all forms of IndyCar – in both the real-world and virtual realms!

“This being the most exciting, drama-filled sim racing day of the offseason is what makes this event even more awesome, and I wanted to be a part of it,” said Joachim. “Knowing the quality of Open-Wheels’ work, year-in and year-out, means I know that the event is going to be good, and I wanted to support it!”

The $100 prize sponsored by Pit Lane Parley adds to a race purse that is already exceeding $1,000 in total. All drivers who qualify for the race in one of the coveted 33 spots will receive a cash payout, with the race winner taking in at least $400 in cash prizes.

There are additional prizes to be won throughout the month of November, and a full rundown of the prize pool will be released next month. The inaugural Open-Wheels.com 500 Mile Race is expected to be one of the richest events in iRacing’s history that doesn’t require drivers to pay an entry fee.
