EVANSVILLE (March 27, 2020) – After a groundbreaking inaugural running in 2019, Open-Wheels Motorsports Sanctioning is proud to present the second annual Open-Wheels 500 Mile Race, to be held on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at the virtual Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Contested on iRacing, the most authentic consumer racing simulation in the world, the Open-Wheels 500 Mile Race strives to create the most compelling, exciting, and competitive rendition of Indianapolis’ own 500-mile race held each May.

Featuring a dedicated broadcast partner, traditional two-day qualifications, the world’s best sim racing and professional drivers, and the most comprehensive Month of May experience on iRacing, the Open-Wheels 500 Mile Race is the premier open-wheel sim racing event of the year.

“On behalf of the staff at Open-Wheels, it is extremely exciting to begin planning our 2020 edition of the 500 Mile Race,” said Tanner Watkins, the owner of Open-Wheels.com and president of the Open-Wheels 500 Mile Race.

“Our inaugural event in the fall of 2019 was heralded as the most exciting, successful, and competitive ‘500’ that open-wheel sim racing has seen.  Through the support of our wonderful sponsors, the worldwide community of sim racers, and the greater open-wheel racing fan base, we look forward to bringing our 2020 race to even greater heights.”

The 2019 Open-Wheels 500 Mile Race saw 104 drivers attempt to qualify for the full-distance 500 mile race.  Two days of qualifications whittled the field down to 33 starters, who lined up in the traditional 11 rows of three on race day.  In the end, it was Italy’s Michele Costantini who reached the checkered flag first – and the upstart driver is looking forward to defending his crown in 2020.

“I can’t wait for this year’s race,” said Costantini, who drives for Apex Racing Team.  “It’s one of the events I’m waiting for with the most excitement. It will be very tough to defend the crown this year because, as we all know, anything can happen in these races, but I still think I have a great shot.”

The 2020 Open-Wheels 500 Mile Race will begin with Opening Day of practice on Sunday, November 1, followed by Qualifications Weekend on November 7 and 8, and finally, race day on Sunday, November 15.

RaceSpot TV, the world leader in sim racing broadcasting, will provide extended live coverage of both days of qualifications, in addition to extensive race day coverage once again in 2020.  Check out the 2019 race broadcast from RaceSpot TV below!

With additional media coverage, the world’s best sim racers, professional drivers, and the most realistic Month of May experience available, November’s Open-Wheels 500 Mile Race will be a can’t-miss event once again.
